Pure Tibetan Yak
Pure yak wool is a real rarity. The yaks that live in the Tibetan highlands are kept in small herds by farmers. The shaggy giants are extremely valuable and are therefore carefully cared for. The animals have a particularly thick coat that consists of top hair and an undercoat. The fine undercoat is obtained by combing, which is completed prior to the start of summer, before the animals are sheared when they would lose their undercoat on their own.
The fine undercoat of the yak has a diameter of 16 to 18 micrometers; incredibly fine! It is pleasantly soft on the skin, has excellent thermal insulation, is dirt and odor repellent and can absorb 30% of its own weight in moisture. Because the hair is so light, it is very economical and you use significantly less than other yarn.
The Pure Tibetan Yak is available in 16 shades. This quality is pre-washed and incredibly soft. It is available in 50g and as a 200g maxi-skein, this often enough for a whole sweater.
Supplied as a skein which we recommend you wind into a "cake" or ball before you start your project.
